This is Brenda and this is her conversion story…(Podcast EP08)

A new episode is live on the podcast! This time I was joined by Brenda who converted to Islam in 1986. I was excited to learn more about her conversion story because although I have known her since I was a child I actually never really knew what her story was.

Brenda, who was born to a White German mother and a Mexican father, was introduced to Islam during a rough time in her life. I couldn’t help but smile as I listened to her story of how her husband introduced her to Islam by giving her a Quran when they first met and how they both as converts grew together as better Muslims, strengthening their Iman (faith). Brenda also talks about the struggles of being in an interacial relationship with an African-American man and the types of discrimination they faced.

“I always grew up in a diverse neighborhood around blacks and white and my area was a poor neighborhood we grew up in the projects with everybody. So I, as a person, never seen color, I just seen the good in the person and it didn’t make any difference what color they were.”

Today, Brenda is an active community member who has taken the initiative to start a converts support group out of her own home to provide support for anyone interested in converting. Recognizing that there was a lack of support, alongside her own experience of how difficult that journey can be, she has not only been able to help so many people but she is also helping build a bridge between converts and non converts in her community.
